Birch Lake has long been considered a premier Minnesota walleye fishing lake with its 20-miles of virtually undeveloped wilderness shoreline offering little fishing pressure--unlike other area lakes--plus, a myriad of rocky points, bays, inlets, and islands to explore.

A recent fishing population report in the April, 2009 issue of the Timberjay Newspaper of Ely, Minnesota states: 

"Birch Lake...holds a strong population of walleye...in our 2006 assessment the walleye catch was 16.4 walleyes caught per gill net. That's the highest gill net count than any previous assessment done on Birch Lake." This is considered exceptional. 

"It's not a small lake-5,628 acres-but it (Birch Lake) has a bunch of 1- to 2- pounders, roughly three times the state average, according to DNR tests. Noteworthy, is the influence of the fresh spring water flowing southward directly from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area via the South Kawishiwi River (River Point's east shoreline) into Birch Lake. This natural waterway out of the BWCA offers some great rapids fishing and steady, but gentle current action, giving this northern Minnesota walleye fishing resort some of the best Minnesota walleye fishing around.

• 16' Boat with 9.9 hp or 15 hp motor, life jackets, and boat cushions, or dockage for your personal boat
• Fish Filleting, packaging and freezing
• Bait (maximum of 3 dz per boat/day: choice of leeches, minnows, crawlers dependent on availability)
• First Tank of Gas
• Use of kayaks, paddle boats, hiking trail, and all other River Point amenities

• Guides Available

• Don't want a motorized boat? Subsitute a canoe instead

2 persons:              per person per night:  $85

3 or more persons: per person per night:  $79

Boat Allocation:  1-3 adults: one 16' boat; 4-6 adults: two 16' boats; 7-9 adults: 3 16' boats. (Allocation may vary for families with children.)  

Based on minimum 3 night rental for 2 persons. Tax, 6% service fee, fishing license, and tackle are additional. Not applicable on previous reservations, or with other offers. Lodging choice dependent upon availability best suited to fulfill occupancy capacity. Upgrades to other equipment not applicable.

1/2 Day (4 hours): $245  Additional Person: $40; Child, age 10 & under: $25

Full Day (8 hours): $325  Additional Person: $55: Child, age 10 & under: $40

Trip includes guide expertise, boat, motor, life jackets, bait and gas. Tax, 5% service fee, fishing license, tackle, and guide gratuity are extra.

Full Day Trip with Shore Lunch: $35 for 1-2 persons; $15 each additional person Deposit: $100 per trip
